A Gift

Yesterday while waiting in the pediatrician's office, I had an interesting conversation with a young mother.  I was filling out forms when I heard, "OMG...you were cursed with double trouble."
Now, as any mother of multiples will tell you, people make the craziest comments and with 2 sets of twins, we have heard our fair share.  I am the worst about saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, so I usually just laugh it off.  For instance, people still ask me if Anna Cate and Brian are identical...ummmm, let's hope not.
This person went on and on and on about how she would hope we are finished having children and  how I should think about getting my tubes tied (I couldn't resist telling her I unfortunately have no tubes) all while her 3 children sat and listened.
Being a mother is hard- so much harder than I could have ever imagined, but it is also a gift from God, not a right as a woman.
As I sat and listened to her complain about the price of formula and diapers, I tried to remember that I don't know the details of her situation, but I couldn't help but wonder if her perspective would be different if pregnancy was a challenge.  I know for a fact that challenge changed me and I don't mean to sound superlative, but it changed me for the better.

My sister in law has twins and I could not imagine how difficult it could be!

But the blessings of one baby...ahh...I'd say "double the blessing!!" :)

I agree! Children are such a blessing, especially yours Michelle, and I hope that woman's children didn't hear her!

Totally agree! I think many people don't appreciate what comes so easy (sometimes TOO easy . . .) to them!

I think you did a good job biting your tongue! Not so sure I could be so nice! Having gone through 2 rounds of IVF to get my 2 gifts from GOD I know your feeling!
