Broken

My leg, that is.  The tibia and fibula, to be exact.  Sunday we were to celebrate Christmas with Todd's family, but I slipped in their driveway (while holding MC, who thankfully was fine) and landed in a very weird way on my right leg and heard a crack...that really loud bone-breaking crack.
An ambulance ride and ER visit later showed that it was indeed broken and would require surgery.  I had surgery yesterday and the procedure went great.  It will be a long road to recovery- 3 months on crutches, rehab, and likely 10 to 11 months before walking without a limp.
And I am so sad and mad that this happened, but especially because it happened this week.  This is probably my favorite week of the whole year.  I had plans of gingerbread houses being built, putting the kids to bed and waking them up to see Christmas lights, special shopping trips with each child for their siblings and my favorite, Christmas Eve Service at our church.
 I had plans.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Last night was a painful night, both phsically and emotionally, but as I sat reciting this Scripture, our family's verse, and just plain praying like crazy to feel at peace with the circumstances we are facing,  it struck me that no matter what, this will be the most beautiful and wonderful Chistmas ever.
Because, like every year, it's a celebration of our Savior's birth.  Just because the celebration looks different on the outside, doesn't mean the love in our hearts for Jesus is any different.  We may be lacking in gingerbread houses and evenings spent driving around looking at lights, but we are forever thankful for family travelling to be with us on Christmas and our friends and families who love us always.
My leg may be broken, but my Christmas spirit is alive and whole!

Oh Michelle, I usually stalk your blog, but this time I had to tell you how sorry I am. I am praying for peace during your stillness. God bless!

Okay, so here I am...in bed sick. I've been that way since Monday. My sweet husband (who is the Worship Pastor at our church) has had to stay home to take care of our 3 boys, all who are sick, when he has one of the busiest weeks ever.
It's the twins first Christmas and we haven't done any shopping (had to wait until the gift from the church came in) nor any baking really, and it felt like Christmas was slipping away, since I too LOVE this week leading up to Christmas day.

And I am in bed, whining. And I open blogger and say, "Lord, just give me something I need to hear."

Guess what post is top on my blogroll. Yours.
Boy, it hit home like none other.

It encouraged me, slapped me in the face, gave me perspective and just all around....changed my whole day.

So, I am SORRY for your broken leg, and surgery and all that comes with it...but I can't tell you thank you enough for what you wrote. Truly.

Two years ago, when we were facing unemployment, upheaval, and me being on bedrest with twins; I would have to recite that verse multiple times an hour. And, as God would have it, His plans are so much better than mine. Hugs.

Dakotapam, yes, His plans are so much better!
Krystle, I am so sorry for everything you're going through but I know y'all will have the most magical first Christmas with your sweet boys.

Michelle,
You have been in my thoughts and prayers since hearing about your fall! I, too, fell and broke my tib/fib 2 days before Christmas 7 years ago! If you need anything, please do not hesitate to call me!

Mommylove, you are the best and I can't begin to tell you how thankful I am or you!
Dawn, I'm so sorry this happened to you too...it really hurts doesn't it? Do you think it's coincidental this has happened to us both at Christmas or is it just that we are all running around crazy?

I just had to join your blog after I read you broke your leg. I messed up a knee and ankle falling out of my house 2 winters ago and your hoarder comment had me laughing. I don't have any babies anymore, just a couple who on occasion still act like two year olds but thought it would be fun to follow a blog with 2 sets of twins. Oh yeah, and the Christmas photo with the race car track was a page out of my book!
